Beauty Sleeps

Sighs, contentment,
and beauty is dreaming,
of peaches and forests
and flowers a-leaning,
of beautiful gowns made
of starlight and diamonds,
of lavender crowns picked
at gold summer’s twilight,
and four-foot-tall grass
green as hummingbird’s wings,
and such lovely roses
making deep crimson rings,
of dancing, and gliding,
and oh so near flying,
through landscapes of color,
wearing all of these things;
of skies made of paint
and bright pixie dust,
and dirt just the color
of October rust,
of flowers of amber,
and russet, and violet,
of birds chirping loudly
and then going quiet,
of gold and brass bees
enjoying the sunshine,
of blessing the world or
as much that she can find,
with her art, her grace,
with her feminine touch,
and her violet eyes
that sparkle so much,
and after she’s had
her fill of these things,
she lays in the grass
and there spreads her wings,
her hair a black river
mixed in with the earth,
the ocean beyond her,
the sound of the surf,
and there she reposes
in the midst of the roses,
listening to the bees buzz
and slowly she dozes,
and awakens luxuriously
within her own bed,
with the memory of her dreaming
still fresh in her head.
